Readers Cup is an annual event organised by the Qld Branch of the Children's Book Council of Australia. It is a state-wide competition for young readers in Years 5 - 10. Teams of four students together read a set of books, and then compete with other school teams to answer quiz questions from the books. Readers Cup competitions challenge students to read widely, work collaboratively in a team and continue developing a love of reading. It allows readers to compete at a regional and state level similar to sporting competitions and to meet other students with an equal passion for books.
This year our school will be conducting our own Reader’s Cup Challenge where each year 5 and 6 class will have a team of 4 students. Each student will have 4 books to read prior to our ‘mini tournament’ early in Term 2. During the tournament teams are required to answer varying degrees of difficulty questions that show their comprehension levels of what they have read. From this, the winning team will progress to the regional tournament day at Immanuel Lutheran College on 17 June 2025. A huge thank you goes to Mr Fulcher for creating Currimundi’ s own Reader Cup event in the year of Reading at Currimundi State School.
