Surfing Excellence Program
This program is an initiative of the school and wider community. Year 4-6 students selected for this program participate in training and competitions in conjunction with Surfing Australia. The program hosts the Joel Parkinson Curra Grom Comp and the North Caloundra Surf School Grom Fest in conjunction with Surfing Australia. Former student and 2012 World Surfing Champion, Joel Parkinson, is the patron of our Surfing Excellence Program.
Surf Lifesaving Skills and Awareness Program
All students from prep to year 6 participate in an accredited surf lifesaving program in partnership with Dicky Beach SLSC and Queensland Surf Lifesaving. The program includes beach activities, swim proficiency, board paddling, CPR and rescue training (This occurs on a term basis for each year level).
Currimundi is proud to offer the only prep to year 6 program on the coast.
Beach Carnival
In this annual event the school sports house compete for the Kerri Thomas/Joel Parkinson Shield. Students from prep to year 6 are involved in many beach activities. There are also surfing, body boarding and tin lid (ironman/woman) contests.
See under the Quicklinks section at the right side of page for our Beach Carnival Video.
Representative Sport
In 2020, representative sport across the state is undergoing a number of changes.
Students and parents are responsible for checking dates of trials, submitting nominations and ensuring payments are made to compete at District, Regional, State and National Trials.
A new online registration and payment process has been developed to assist parents and students in organising themselves for upcoming trial dates. The newly designed process streamlines paperwork for your child and yourself.
The following information provides parents with a step-by-step process for 2020 trials.
DISTRICT TRIALS
District trial dates and information will be advertised through your school’s website, newsletter and social media (where appropriate) and on the Sunshine Coast School Sport website.
Step 1: Students to collect a District Trial Information Pack from their school Sport Co-ordinator/PE Teacher.
Step 2: Parents/students go to Sunshine Coast School Sport Website and download the district trial notice.
Step 3: Parents go to School Shop Online and register to attend a trial.
Schools will no longer be registering students to attend Coastal District Trials.
Step 4: Students must submit their completed Permission/Medical form and Mouthguard forms (if required) to the Coastal District official at the commencement of a trial.
NO FORM & NO ONLINE REGISTRATION = NO TRIAL.
Please note: If no online registration has been completed, this may limit your child’s ability to fully trial.
For more information please see the Quicklinks section of this page.
Inter-School/Inter-house Sport
The school caters for both summer and winter sport. Both Inter-School and Inter-House competitions are arranged. All students participate in an Athletics Carnival each year as well as a Beach Carnival, a Cross-country Carnival and a Swimming Carnival. Students are allocated into Sports Houses on enrolment at the school.
We also provide a fundraising obstacle course call 'TUFF CURRA' where students raise money for fantastic programs around the school.
Swimming
Swimming instruction is provided for students from Prep to Year 4. Year 5 and 6 students participate in a Surf Skills Program, which focuses on surf awareness, surf safety, body boarding and surfboard riding. There is a charge for these programs. The sporting programs at Currimundi encourage participation from all students and form an integral part of the school sports program.
