Why does school attendance matter?
Regular school attendance gives students a better chance at life. Students achieve better when they go to school all day, every school day because:
- they have increased access to learning opportunities
- they maintain friendships
- they stay connected to the curriculum progression
- they develop self-efficacy as a learner
- they have better long term life outcomes.
The Every day counts campaign, focuses on the importance of attending school every day of the school year. The campaign was developed with the input of Solid Pathways students and supported by Queensland sporting heroes, NRL legends Sam Thaiday and Johnathan Thurston, plus former Queensland Firebird netballer Beryl Friday. A central focus is on the importance of a team effort in achieving consistently high school attendance. A student’s team comprises of family, friends, school and community.
